About Me

Working with children with dyslexia is my passion. With over   over 20 years in education and 6 years working with children with dyslexia, I have experienced first-hand the challenges in learning to read.  I remember as a second grade classroom teacher being told to put grade level text in front of students who clearly could not read on grade level.

One day I was invited to a training by a fellow teacher friend. There I had a lightbulb moment. My students needed the code. They were never going to read without phonics instruction. When I wasn't being watched, I would work with my students in small group on the skills needed to read. Still I needed more knowledge and the freedom to help my students.

I attended some literacy courses at SMU which broadened my skills. Then I knew my desire was to work with struggling children in small groups  and 1:1.

Fast-forward to becoming a well-trained dyslexia interventionist. I finally "get to" help children in small groups and 1:1. It's a passion and so rewarding.

Let's get it right together!

What is dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a difficulty in reading characterized by inaccurate reading, word recognition, decoding and poor spelling due to the brains inability to phonologically process sounds in language. Dyslexia is neurobiological in origin which simply means the brain is designed differently therefore requiring a different form of instruction.
